SARAWAK OIL & GAS INDUSTRY CONNECT – 3RD EDITION 30 OCTOBER 2020

Sarawak Onshore state of play, potential opportunities, investment horizon and key challenges. All topics covered at the third edition of Sarawak Oil & Gas Industry Connect, co-hosted by PETROS and the State Economic Planning Unit.

Focused on the upstream exploration sector, the 2.5 hour session held on Friday 30 October, also previewed two Onshore Blocks covering the Miri and Limbang, Lawas areas – SK 433 and SK 334, which will open for bidding in coming months.

The session closed with panel session where PETROS Group Chief Executive Officer – Datuk Sauu Kakok and Dr James  Foo, Executive VP for Upstream together with Dato Sri JC Fong, State Legal Counsel took questions submitted online by over 100 Oil & Gas Corporate figureheads and State Agencies attending. Moderated by Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Director of EPU, the panel addressed questions on PETROS’ plans to develop capabilities of Sarawak oil and gas contractors and vendors, PETROS’ block opening and bidding process, our Petroleum Contracting strategy and opportunities for Sarawakian contractors to gear up for high-value future activities, such as decommissioning.

Key take aways: Opportunity to do things differently for Onshore Sarawak including deployment of technology and innovation, cost efficiency and flawless execution, and promoting safety as a culture as pre-requisite for the licence to operate.

The same evening commemorated the Ceremonial Award of two Oil Mining Leases to PETROS by The Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak presented to Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Hamid Bugo, Chairman of PETROS.
