PETROSNIAGA UPDATES ON LPG SUPPLY FOR SARAWAK

Date: 7 March 2025

7 March 2025, Kuching - Following the recent flood affecting many parts of Sarawak, a landslide occurred at PUSAKA Integrated Resources Sdn Bhd (PIRSB) liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) Bottling Plant in Bintulu on 29 January 2025 which halted operations of the facility to prioritise the safety of the surrounding community.

PETROSNiaga Sdn Bhd, the retail LPG arm for Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) is working closely with PIRSB to set up a temporary bottling plant in Bintulu to address the supply needs of Northern Sarawak. This temporary facility can produce up to 50% of the existing plant’s original capacity and is expected to be operational by early April. Restoration of the existing plant is progressing, and is expected to take up to six months.

In the meantime, PETROSNiaga is implementing several measures to ensure minimal disruption in the Northern Region. Senari Independent Oil Terminal (IOT) in Kuching has ramped up production from a daily average of 13,000 cylinders to about 26,000 cylinders, which is sufficient to meet Sarawak’s daily demand of 25,000 cylinders. This is further supported by contingency measures including establishing a depot for additional storage capacity in the Northern Region.

To enhance supply to high-demand areas such as Miri, Bintulu and Sibu, the number of transporters and LPG cylinders have been significantly increased, ensuring faster and more consistent deliveries. These efforts are part of an ongoing commitment to maintaining reliable supply for both household and commercial use.

PETROSNiaga is securing additional LPG supply from Sepanggar Bay in Sabah to reinforce supply for northern Sarawak and the situation is anticipated to normalise within a week.

The price of subsidised household LPG remains unchanged at RM26.60 per cylinder when collected from authorised distributors and dealers. Consumers are encouraged to report any unauthorised price increases or extra charges to PETROSNiaga’s Customer Service at 1300-88-2122 or the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) at 1-800-886-800 or via WhatsApp at 019-8488000.

PETROSNiaga remains committed to ensuring a steady and reliable supply of LPG across Sarawak. We advise customers to only purchase LPG as per their usual requirements and avoid unnecessary panic buying as well as to stay calm and assured, as we ensure that households and businesses across Sarawak have access to a reliable and affordable source of energy.
