Date: 30 October 2024
30 October 2024, Kuching - Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) today commemorated its 7th anniversary with an event to reflect on its achievements while envisioning a sustainable energy future for Sarawak and beyond.
The event was officiated by The Right Honourable Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, who shared insights into the company's founding purpose and its role in advancing Sarawak's economic landscape.
In his speech, the Premier highlighted PETROS' purpose to manage the state’s natural resources for the benefit of Sarawakians. “Our journey with PETROS began with a simple yet profound intention: to enable Sarawak to have greater management and utilisation over our oil and gas resources, ensuring all Sarawakians benefit from our abundant natural resources. This supports our vision of improving living standards and infrastructure as we transform Sarawak into a high-income, developed State by 2030,” he stated.
Over the past seven years, PETROS has established itself as the third largest oil and gas equity producer in Malaysia, playing a key role in driving Sarawak’s economy. The Premier also highlighted recent milestones, including PETROS’ strategic initiatives under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR), which aims to enhance gas accessibility across the state and attract significant investments.
Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo, Chairman of PETROS, acknowledged the dedication of the PETROS team and its strategic partners.
He also emphasised the company's commitment to community engagement, announcing various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Sarawakians. These include healthcare contributions, infrastructure projects, and the launch of the PETROS Train and Place programme, which aims to develop local talent for the energy sector.
As part of its future vision, PETROS is set to invest in further developing Sarawak’s energy infrastructure, including pioneering low-carbon initiatives and expanding domestic gas distribution. The anniversary celebration not only marks a significant milestone for PETROS but also reaffirms its commitment to driving sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for the people of Sarawak. The company looks forward to continuing its journey of innovation, collaboration, and resilience in the years to come.
